MothersAgainstHeadLice.org is a not-for-profit organization with one goal: Eliminate Head Lice!
We know it will be impossible to completely erradicate the entire species, but we’re determined to do what we can.
Head Lice are a special problem. They are simple insect pests that feed on human blood just like mosquitos. The problem is that, unlike mosquitos, people are embarrased to talk about Head Lice.
There is a completely unjustified stigma associated with lice and nits that makes people afraid to discuss the subject. The popular belief is that head lice are associated with unclean personal or housekeeping habits. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, head lice prefer clean heads!
So even though changing popular belief is next to impossible…we’ve decided to see what we can do to help.
What are we doing?
HEAD LICE HOTLINE – First of all, we want to provide an emergency help line for people so they have someone to talk to about lice that is NOT in their circle of family and friends. That way, they can speak freely about the problem and get some advice from a live human over the telephone.
This very important first step is called the Head Lice Hotline. You can see this project at www.HeadLiceHotline.org.
EDUCATE THE PUBLIC – The next step we’ll work on is to help educate the public about the reality of the head lice issue and do what we can to help change public perception. Getting infested with head lice can happen to anyone. We know from experience that lice can plague people of any race, religion or social status.
Specific plans to accomplish this task are in development.
We could use some help!
We’re a new organization. We’re a small…no…make that “TINY” organization. We need all the help we can get. If you feel that you could help us with our mission we’d love to have you join us. We need help in three areas:
MEMBERSHIP – Voices carry. One lone voice in the desert can’t have the impact of a thousand voices at the gates. The more people we have as members of our organization, the better. There is no cost to join and we aren’t going to pester you to buy stuff or give us money. We just want to have a list of members who are willing to recieve an occasional email from us and forward helpful information from us to their local schools or city officials. If you think you could do that, please join our organization.
DONATIONS – If you have the means and feel so inclined, all donations are gladly accepted. We are getting and seeking corporate sponsorships, but the expenses of doing advertising about the Head Lice issue will be far greater than what the corporations are willing to give. VOLUNTEERS – We need volunteers who are willing to serve in slightly more active roles than just forwarding emails. We’re looking for people to be on our Board of Directors as well as for our Steering Committee. These are strictly volunteer positions and are not compensated. But they will be critically important to our success. If you have the time and have some experience or expertise you’d be willing to share with us, please contact us about volunteering.
